Starting at Long Last

I sit here in my grey oversized hoodie, surrounded by discarded Ferrero chocolate wrappers, tapping away on my laptop.

It’s October, and I’m just realizing that it’s been over a year since I planned to publish a blog — 17 months to be exact.

If I’ve learned anything as a college student, it’s that the most daunting part of any project, hobby, or endeavor is simply starting.

“But why start now, Alexis?”

Good question, friend. I’m glad you asked. My reasoning is two-fold:

1) I am graduating soon and realize that I should probably document this period of my life to look back on. My memory is quickly dwindling to a size of an acorn.

2) My younger brothers and cousins are now approaching their high school/college years (sobs). Helping them navigate their recent journeys has made me reflect a lot on my own experiences growing up.

My goal is to blog about topics and issues that I wish I had known as a girl trying to navigate life as a first-generation college student and finnesse her way out of being a dentist to become a creative (boo ya).

Whether we’re discussing school, career, or just food — I hope that my family, my friends, and those that may not have an older sibling in their lives feel empowered, understood and know they’re not alone.

Talk to you soon.
